Welcome to the Liverpool Victoria Rowing Club
Ian Alastair Fisher
1946 - 2017
With great sadness, we have to record the death of Ian Fisher, a Vice-President of this club. Ian died on the afternoon of Friday, 27th January. He will be greatly missed.
Ian was a longstanding member of our Club, joining when he left school. He went to St Andrews University but continued to race with us during the vacations, becoming regularly involved when he graduated and then rowing in our Henley crews through the 1970's.
He also became involved in the organisation of rowing, both in the north-west and nationally, and was awarded the Amateur Rowing Association Medal of Honour in recognition of his lifelong efforts on behalf of rowing. The medal was presented to him by the then President of the ARA (now British Rowing), Di Ellis CBE, at our annual dinner in 2009.
Ian was an international umpire and was the British representative on the (rowing) umpiring team at the Beijing Olympics and was regularly to be seen umpiring at similar events such as Merseyside Regatta., where he last umpired in 2016.
Ian's funeral will be on Friday 10th. February at 12.40 pm. There will be a ceremony at Thornton Crematorium for family members and close friends only. This will be followed at 1.30 pm by a Service of Remembrance and Celebration at St. Michael's Church Blundellsands. After the Service, all will be welcome for refreshments at the Waterloo Rugby Club, which is about 100 yards from the Church.
(The Church of St. Michael is on Dowhills Road, Blundellsands, Merseyside, L23 8SP at the corner of St. Michael's Road and Dowhills Road. There is plenty of parking space in the streets near the Church and at the Rugby Club.)
